Provincial Chapter Day 4

Today, Thursday 4th May, we adjourned at 8:45am in the Chapel at Mt St Joseph Retreat House and celebrated the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit. We then moved to the Capitular Hall where Br Noel Muscat went through the roll call (9:42). He read a message from Br Alex Borg OFM and then Fr Frank Cini gave us an input on the Wellbeing of friars and relational dynamics. Physical health, a good balance between work and rest, dealing with emotions, having circles of trust, being aware of feelings, dealing with fear, anger, loss and grief, and old age are cardinal themes for wellbeing.

We closed the session with Fr Cini and at 11:05 we passed on to the approval of the minutes of 2nd May. They were approved unanimously by a show of hands.

Br Walter Vassallo explained the votation process. The Minister General specified that our General Statutes uses the latin word “debet”: those elected have to accept their election, in spirit of obedience. We invoked the Holy Spirit through the hymn Veni Creator and we gradually elected the Definitors for the next three years. The Definitors elected were: Br Ramon Farrugia, Br Lorrie Zerafa, Br Clive Camilleri and Br Martin Coleiro.

A 15 minute break was given and at 13:00 we proceeded to review the Proposals that will be voted upon tomorrow. The Moderator concluded the day’s work at 13:30 and we headed for lunch.
