Provincial Chapter 2026 – Day 1

Today, the Provincial Chapter began at 9:30am with a moment of prayer, accompanied by hymns, Sacred Scripture, and the listening of some Admonitions of St Francis.

The General Visitator, Br Georges Massinelli, reminded us that the celebration of a Chapter is first and foremost an act of faith. It is not merely a human endeavour, but a recognition that the Holy Spirit is acting in us and through us. While important decisions are to be taken, he encouraged us to allow this moment to help us acknowledge our moments of disbelief and fill them with renewed trust in God’s Providence.

A reflection was then delivered by Fr Eric Cachia on the Wedding at Cana (John 2). He reminded us that our task is not simply to decide, but above all to listen. Reflecting on the figure of Mary, he highlighted attitudes that can guide us throughout the Chapter: the courage to see reality as it truly is, the ability to remain within it without rushing immediately to solutions, trust in God, and the capacity to recognise the extraordinary within the ordinary moments of life.

The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Br Anthony Chircop, the current Minister Provincial.

In the afternoon, the Chapter continued with the presentation of the reports of the Minister General and the Minister Provincial. The day concluded with the prayer of Vespers.
