Fr Norbert (Edwin) Ellul Vincenti, born in Gżira on 27 June 1937. He entered the Novitiate on 27 September 1953, made his Temporary Profession on 2 October 1954 and Solemn Profession on 28 June 1958. He was ordained priest on 12 March 1960. He studied in East Bergholt and Oxford in the UK. He carried out his priestly ministry especially in the friaries of Valletta and Sliema as a teacher of English and a correspondent for many articles and reviews on local newspapers, particularly on The Times o f Malta.
He was also member of the censorship board and was active in the cultural and artistic fields. Chronicler, Definitor and Provincial Secretary. In 2024 he retired in Porziuncola By Golden Care and died in Mater Dei Hospital at the age of 88 years.
The funeral Mass of Fr. Norbert will be celebrated on Friday 22 May at 9.00 am in the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Sliema.
I knew Fr Norbert since I was a very young child in Valletta. As I grew up we used to do the commentary for both the processions of Our Lady of Sorrows and Good Friday (both in Valletta). Fr Norbert was very easy to talk to. I felt shocked this morning when I heard about his demise. RIP Fr Norbert and thank you for everything.
