Yesterday, our Franciscan Province joined Fr Paul in celebrating a special moment of thanksgiving to the Lord on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination.
For this significant occasion, Fr Paul chose the words: “Thank you, Lord God, and forgive me, Lord God.” Simple yet profound, these words express both gratitude to God for the gifts and graces received throughout the years, and the humility of one who recognises the constant need for the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness.
In his homily, Fr Paul placed particular emphasis on the central importance of the Eucharist in the Christian life. He reminded those present that the Eucharist remains the source from which every Christian draws strength to live out the faith and to continue following Christ in daily life.
He also reflected on the great grace of the priesthood, and on how the Lord chooses and calls priests so that, despite their human limitations, they may become instruments of his grace and servants of the People of God. Fifty years of priestly ministry therefore become not only an occasion for celebration, but above all a moment of gratitude to God for his faithfulness and constant presence throughout the years.
As a Franciscan Province, we give thanks to the Lord for the gift of Fr Paul’s vocation and ministry, and we continue to keep him in our prayers, asking the Lord to continue to grant him his grace and peace.
On this occasion, we also pray in a special way for more Franciscan vocations, that more young people may have the courage to listen to the Lord’s call, follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis, and joyfully offer their lives in the service of God, the Church, and his people.
