New Life for our Provincial Curia

The Provincial Curia of the Franciscan Province of Saint Paul the Apostle has been given new life through a series of beautiful paintings by Maltese artist Nathanael Theuma. The artworks bring together important Gospel and Franciscan themes that reflect the values at the heart of our life and mission.

The first theme is Service, inspired by Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and by the example of Saint Francis, reminding us that true authority and fraternity are expressed through humble service to one another.

The second theme brings together Love and Mercy, represented through Saint Francis embracing the leper and Jesus showing compassion and mercy to the woman caught in adultery. Both scenes remind us of the call to recognise Christ in every person, particularly in those who are rejected, wounded or in need of compassion.

At the centre is the theme of Change, portrayed through the Conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus. Saul’s encounter with Christ transformed his life and led him to become Saint Paul the Apostle, the Patron of our Franciscan Province. His conversion stands as a powerful reminder that an encounter with Christ can transform our lives and send us forth with a renewed mission.

Together, these paintings give the Provincial Curia not only a renewed appearance, but also a deeper spiritual character that inviting all who enter to reflect on service, love, mercy and conversion, values which continue to shape our Franciscan life and mission.
