Between the 7-9 March 2025 the devotional cross held in our church in Valletta was taken to our church of St Anthony, in Għajnsielem for the veneration of the Gozitan community. It was brought about by the explicit request of bishop Anton Teuma, who wanted that the faithful in his diocese start this Lent by placing their sight “on the one whom they have pierced” (Zac 12:10) and renewing their call of discipleship by physically walking behind him in a prayerful spirit.
Indeed, many visited the St Anthony’s church during the two days that the crucifix was made available for the veneration of the faithful and it became a moment of grace for many.
On Sunday 9th March the devotional cross was taken in pilgrimage to the parish church of Our Lady of Loreto, Għajnsielem, where a liturgy of the Word was celebrated.
A big thank you goes to the many people to coordinated the event at various levels, to the priests who offered hours of confession throughout the hours the church was open and to the many volunteers that gave a helping hand. It was a beautiful testimony of a diverse community that works together for a common goal.
May we continue to look on the one whom they have pierced, may we not shy away from being his disciples, and may Christ, our Redeemer, bring us to everlasting joy.
